Nigeria’s crude oil production declined by 4% in July 2026, driven by operational challenges at key offshore fields. Despite the drop, the country managed to exceed its OPEC production quota for the third consecutive month, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
Data released by the commission shows that Nigeria produced an average of 1.505 million barrels per day (mbpd) of crude oil in July. This output remains slightly above the country's OPEC-allocated quota of 1.5 mbpd.
An additional 0.17 mbpd of condensate was produced during the month, bringing the total average daily production of crude oil and condensate to 1.67 mbpd. This represents a decline from June, when crude production averaged 1.53 mbpd and condensate stood at 170,446 barrels per day (bpd), totaling 1.7 mbpd.
Operational Disruptions at Erha and Akpo Fields
The NUPRC attributed the decline in July’s output to technical and operational challenges at the Erha and Akpo fields. These disruptions constrained production volumes and contributed significantly to the overall reduction in national crude oil output.
Despite these setbacks, the combined daily production of crude oil and condensate peaked at 1.78 mbpd during the month, while the lowest daily output recorded was 1.57 mbpd. The NUPRC noted that operations across other producing assets remained relatively stable.
Operators have implemented measures to maintain production efficiency and minimize the impact of these constraints. Routine production and crude evacuation activities were largely sustained across the sector during the period.
Terminal Performance and Output Breakdown
A detailed breakdown of average daily crude oil and condensate production by terminals and streams highlights varying performances across the country's oil infrastructure. The Forcados Terminal recorded the highest output, averaging 322.34 kbpd in July.
The Bonny Terminal followed closely with an average daily production of 303.72 kbpd. Meanwhile, the Qua Iboe Terminal recorded an average daily production of 158.02 kbpd.
Other major terminals also contributed to the monthly volume, with the Escravos Oil Terminal posting an average of 131.41 kbpd. The Bonga field ranked fifth, contributing 100.23 kbpd of crude oil production to the national total.
