Nationwide Fibre Optic Rollout
The Federal Government is set to begin laying 90,000 kilometres of fibre optic cable across Nigeria within the coming weeks. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, announced that the project has received official approval from President Bola Tinubu.
This massive infrastructure deployment aims to extend broadband access to every state, geopolitical zone, local government area, and ward. The initiative is designed to improve the quality of connectivity and is expected to directly benefit approximately 20 million Nigerians.
Tower Deployment for Underserved Communities
In addition to the fibre network, the government plans to commence the installation of 3,700 telecommunications towers starting in October. This deployment focuses on expanding mobile network coverage to underserved and rural communities across the country.
