Zenith Bank Investigates Customer Data Breach

Zenith Bank Plc has launched an investigation into an incident involving unauthorized access to customer data. The bank disclosed the development in an email sent to customers on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

According to the lender, the breach does not involve financial information. Furthermore, the incident has not compromised its banking services or digital channels, which remain secure and fully operational.

The bank explained that the event is part of a wider global cyberattack targeting multiple international organizations across various sectors. Upon discovering the breach, Zenith Bank immediately activated its incident response protocols and intensified its cybersecurity remediation efforts.

As a precautionary measure, Zenith Bank advised its customers to remain vigilant against phishing attempts, text messages, or phone calls. The bank urged customers never to disclose their passwords, Personal Identification Numbers, One-Time Passwords, or other security credentials to anyone.

This incident highlights the ongoing cybersecurity challenges facing Nigerian financial institutions. In recent months, several banks have suspended social media operations due to impersonation and fraudulent activities.

The regulatory environment remains active, with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) previously announcing investigations in April into alleged data breaches involving Sterling Bank, Remita, and the Corporate Affairs Commission.
