Tetracore Energy powers up 100MW Atakobo plant for manufacturers

Tetracore Energy has officially begun commercial operations at Phase I of its 100MW Atakobo Independent Power Generation & Distribution System. This development injects new generation capacity into Nigeria’s industrial power grid.

The milestone signifies the project's transition from its development phase into active generation and supply, operating under existing commercial contracts. The company has confirmed the execution of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with industrial offtakers and has commenced electricity delivery from the plant.

This initiative aligns with Tetracore’s strategy to establish integrated gas-to-power infrastructure. The goal is to enhance energy reliability for manufacturers who are currently contending with high diesel costs and an unstable national grid.

The Atakobo IPP is positioned as a scalable asset within Tetracore’s broader energy platform, specifically targeting industrial and commercial clusters that require dedicated and dependable power sources. The launch highlights the increasing private sector investment in distributed generation as Nigeria works to bridge its significant electricity supply gap.

Phase I of the Atakobo project is currently supplying 20MW of power, with a clear expansion pathway to reach the full 100MW capacity. The project is supported by approximately 80 kilometers of 33kV transmission and distribution infrastructure. This includes secured Right of Way (ROW) corridors designed to facilitate efficient power evacuation and distribution across the Ijebu Ode–Ijebu-Itele industrial axis in Ogun State.

Olakunle Williams commented on the development, stating, “The commencement of generation and distribution from the Atakobo IPP represents another important milestone in our commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s industrial and energy infrastructure. Sustainable industrial growth requires reliable power, and through integrated energy projects such as Atakobo, we are creating scalable solutions capable of supporting long-term economic development.”
