Tetracore Energy Secures Nasarawa Power Licences

Tetracore Energy Group (TEG), an integrated energy company, has achieved a significant milestone by securing preliminary electricity generation and distribution licences from the Nasarawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission. This development is a key step in the company's expansion across Nigeria’s gas-to-power value chain.

The licences were formally presented to TEG’s President & CEO, Olakunle Williams, by the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, during the Nasarawa Investment Summit 2026. The summit, held from May 6–7 in Lafia, focused on advancing investment opportunities and infrastructure development within the state.

Governor Abdullahi Sule highlighted that Tetracore Energy Group had already begun preliminary project development activities, expressing the State Government’s confidence in the company's capabilities and its commitment to Nasarawa’s energy transformation.

These new licences enable Tetracore to accelerate the development of a gas-fired Independent Power Project (IPP). This project is designed to meet the growing industrial and commercial electricity demand in Nasarawa State’s key economic areas. The company's integrated approach combines gas supply, power generation, and distribution to foster industrial growth and enhance energy reliability.

This initiative follows Tetracore’s recently commissioned Phase I of its 100MW gas-fired IPP in Atakabo, Ogun State, further solidifying its presence in Nigeria's gas-to-power sector.

The Nasarawa Independent Power Project will be implemented in phases, starting with Phase I, which will provide 60MW of generation capacity. The plant is designed for scalability and is expected to expand to between 120MW and 150MW as demand increases across the Nasarawa–Toto, Awe–Obi, and Akwanga–Karu–Keffi corridors. This phased approach ensures that capacity expansion aligns with industrial uptake, optimizing investment and sustainability.

Tetracore will also deploy essential transmission and distribution infrastructure. The Phase I rollout includes approximately 120 km of distribution infrastructure, built around a 162 km 33kV network. This network is intended to provide a reliable electricity supply to targeted industrial and commercial clusters, reducing businesses' reliance on diesel generators and lowering operating costs.

Further demonstrating its commitment, Tetracore signed a Head of Terms agreement with the Nasarawa Investment and Development Agency and the Nasarawa State Government. This partnership will support the development and implementation of the State’s Gas Master Plan, outlining a phased, market-driven approach to power delivery and infrastructure development.
