Seplat Energy PLC has announced a significant leadership transition, appointing Engr. Effiong Okon as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective August 1, 2026. This move marks a new chapter for the indigenous oil and gas company as it focuses on its strategic growth and energy transition initiatives.

Roger Brown will retire as CEO and Board Director on July 31, 2026, concluding a 13-year tenure with Seplat Energy, including the last six years as CEO. During his leadership, Seplat Energy advanced its growth strategy through key acquisitions, including Eland Oil and Gas in 2019 and Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU) in 2024.

The Board has also elected Tony O. Elumelu, CFR, as the new Chairman, effective January 1, 2027. He will succeed Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, who is set to retire as Chairman on December 31, 2026. Elumelu, founder and Chairman of Heirs Holdings, brings extensive experience in value creation across various quoted and non-listed companies.

Elumelu joined the Seplat Energy board in January 2026 after his firm, Heirs Energies, acquired a 20.1% stake in the company for approximately $500 million. He expressed honour in succeeding Senator Udoma and confidence in Seplat Energy's role in Africa's economic transformation.

Engr. Effiong Okon brings over 35 years of industry experience to his new role. He has a deep understanding of Seplat Energy, having previously served as Operations Director, New Energy Director, and most recently, Managing Director of ANOH Gas Processing Company. In his previous roles, he oversaw project execution and development, including the ANOH gas plant project.

Okon's career includes a distinguished tenure at Royal Dutch Shell, where he held senior leadership positions across Nigeria, the USA, Europe, and the Middle East. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Senator Udoma, who has overseen the integration of MPNU and the development of Seplat Energy’s 2030 strategic plan, noted Roger Brown's exceptional contribution and welcomed Engr. Okon as the incoming CEO.

Seplat Energy Plc is Nigeria’s leading indigenous energy company, dual-listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX: SEPLAT) and the London Stock Exchange (LSE: SEPL). The company aims to provide affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy to drive social and economic prosperity.
