Oando PLC announced on April 16, 2026, that its joint venture has begun supplying gas to a newly commissioned 60-megawatt independent power project located in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
This development is a key part of the efforts to enhance electricity generation and distribution within the state. The 60MW gas-fired power plant, situated in Elebele, Ogbia Local Government Area, was officially inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on April 10, 2026.
The upstream joint venture between Oando PLC and NNPC E&P Limited is responsible for the critical task of supplying gas to the facility. This partnership ensures the operational readiness and sustained power generation of the Yenagoa IPP.
The joint venture has secured a long-term agreement to be the sole gas supplier for the plant. Under this contract, the JV will deliver a contracted volume of 11.2 million standard cubic feet per day (11.2 MMSCFD) of gas.
Gas is being delivered to the plant through the JV's Elebele Valve Station. This station is interconnected with a major trunkline, which guarantees a consistent and uninterrupted supply of feedstock necessary for the continuous operation of the Independent Power Plant (IPP).
Wale Tinubu, Group Chief Executive of Oando, highlighted the project's expected positive impact on the region. He stated that by improving power reliability, the initiative is poised to unlock new business opportunities, elevate living standards, and foster broader economic growth throughout Bayelsa State.
The new power project is anticipated to provide more stable electricity to thousands of homes and businesses in Yenagoa and its surrounding communities. This is a significant advancement for Bayelsa State, a region that, despite being a major oil-producing area in Nigeria, has historically faced challenges with inadequate access to reliable power.
