Yobe Transfers Four Agro-Industrial Hubs to NFC

The Yobe State Government has officially handed over four major agro-industrial hubs to the Nigeria Food Corporation. The move is part of efforts to revitalise the state’s agro-industrial sector and implement its Agro-Food Industrial Revolution.

The handover ceremony took place at the Governor’s Office in Damaturu. The event was chaired by Mohammed Goje, the Secretary to the Yobe State Government, alongside the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, Solid Minerals and Tourism.

Rehabilitating State Assets

The Nigeria Food Corporation was established as a public-private partnership initiative under Governor Mai Mala Buni. The corporation serves as the flagship institution driving Yobe's emerging agro-industrial transformation.

The assets transferred to the corporation include Yobe Flour & Feeds Mills Company Limited and Wheat Flour Global Mills Company Limited. Both were previously held by Yobe Investment Company Limited.

Additionally, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Tourism and Solid Minerals transferred the Yobe State Fertilizer Blending Company, Gujba Ltd. The Ministry of Livestock Development also transferred the Damaturu Modern Abattoir.

Future Asset Transfers

The state government has listed two additional assets for subsequent consideration. These are the Nguru Oil Mills and the property designated for the headquarters of the Nigeria Food Corporation. Their transfer remains pending until the reconciliation of shareholders’ interests is completed.

Mohammed Goje stated that the transfer aligns with Governor Buni’s vision to position Yobe as a competitive agro-industrial hub. He noted that the decision will revive industrial assets, improve productivity, create jobs, and expand the state's revenue base.

The transfer documents were signed by Sa’id Alkali Kori, the Chairman of the NFC Board of Directors. The signing was witnessed by Babagana Mohammed Adam, the Managing Director of the corporation.

Other government representatives at the ceremony included Aliyu Isa Chikaji, the Director-General of YAPPPIP, who joined virtually. Hamza Saidu, the outgoing Managing Director of Yobe Investment Company Limited, also participated alongside the incoming Managing Director's representative.
