Unilever Nigeria Appoints Femi-Okunbanjo as Executive Director

Unilever Nigeria has announced the appointment of Modupe Femi-Okunbanjo as an executive director, with her tenure commencing on June 30, 2026. This strategic move was communicated in a notice sent to Nigeria Exchange Limited.

The appointment follows the resignation of Ibrahim Sodipe, who previously served as an executive director on the board. Femi-Okunbanjo currently holds the position of Financial Controller for Nigeria and Regional Controls Lead for West Africa at Unilever Nigeria Plc.

In her current capacity, she is responsible for financial governance, regulatory compliance, enterprise risk management, and driving financial discipline across the West African region. She is a chartered accountant with over 15 years of extensive experience spanning the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and telecommunications sectors.

Femi-Okunbanjo began her career at KPMG, where she established a strong foundation in audit, financial reporting, and internal controls. She has since built a distinguished reputation for effectively steering finance teams, shaping strategic initiatives, and strengthening risk management frameworks.

She is recognized for promoting ethical leadership and data-driven decision-making. Her contributions include elevating financial reporting standards, ensuring audit excellence, and enhancing overall governance structures to foster sustainable growth and long-term value creation.

Before joining Unilever Nigeria in 2018, Femi-Okunbanjo held key roles at UAC Plc, Helios Towers Nigeria, and Makasa Sun Nigeria Limited. During these roles, she pioneered robust control frameworks, successfully eliminated revenue leakages, digitized operations, and instilled financial discipline within organizations operating in challenging macroeconomic environments.

An alumnus of Lagos State University, she earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and later an MBA specializing in Strategy from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, United Kingdom. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
