Sahara Group Foundation Expands Waste Management with Two New Hubs

Sahara Group Foundation, the social impact arm of Sahara Group, has further expanded its commitment to environmental sustainability by commissioning two new Sahara Go Recycling Hubs in the Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State. These new facilities mark the 18th and 19th hubs established under the initiative.

The Sahara Go Recycling Initiative is designed to promote responsible waste management by diverting recyclable materials away from landfills. It also aims to empower communities by providing them with opportunities to derive economic benefits from recycling activities.

Chidilim Menakaya, Director of Sahara Group Foundation, stated that the commissioning of these hubs reflects the Foundation's ongoing investment in practical, community-focused solutions that yield long-term environmental and socio-economic benefits. She emphasized that bringing structured recycling solutions closer to residents not only fosters environmental responsibility but also unlocks livelihoods and strengthens local resilience.

The event was attended by various stakeholders, including representatives from Sahara Group and Sahara Group Foundation, officials from Ojodu LCDA, community leaders, partners, volunteers, and residents, underscoring strong community support and collaboration.

Olaide Bello, Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman of Ojodu LCDA, David Olusegun Odunmbaku, commended Sahara Group Foundation's efforts. He highlighted the timeliness and impact of the recycling hub, noting its strategic location within the community. Bello added that the initiative aligns with the LCDA's sustainability goals by transforming waste into valuable resources, reducing environmental impact, supporting climate action, and creating livelihood opportunities.
