The Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) is intensifying its efforts to combat child malnutrition in Lagos State through the expansion of its Project BLOOM initiative. This latest outreach, conducted in partnership with the Lagos State Government and the Health Emergency Initiative (HEI), targeted the Alimosho Local Government Area, a community facing significant challenges related to food security.

Project BLOOM, short for Bringing Life to Our Overlooked Minors, is a targeted intervention designed to provide nutritional support, medical screenings, and crucial caregiver education to address the root causes of malnutrition in vulnerable communities. The Alimosho outreach represents the third phase of this impactful program, building on previous successes in Yaba and Ajegunle.

During the Alimosho outreach, over 120 malnourished children received comprehensive assistance. This included the provision of nutritious food packages designed to address specific dietary deficiencies, as well as thorough medical screenings to identify underlying health conditions that may exacerbate malnutrition. Equally important was the educational component, where caregivers received vital information on proper feeding practices, hygiene, and healthcare access.

The impact of Project BLOOM extends beyond immediate relief. Data collected from the initial phases in Yaba and Ajegunle demonstrate a significant positive trend, with more than 50% of the children who participated in the program showing signs of recovery. This promising outcome underscores the effectiveness of a multi-pronged approach that combines direct nutritional support with preventative education and ongoing monitoring.

NGX Group staff volunteers played an integral role in the Alimosho outreach, working alongside healthcare professionals from the Lagos State Government and HEI facilitators. Their involvement highlights the commitment of NGX Group to social responsibility and community engagement. These volunteers assisted with various tasks, including screening procedures, data collection, and the distribution of resources.

Temi Popoola, the Group Managing Director of NGX Group Plc, emphasized the broader implications of Project BLOOM for national economic resilience. "Sustainable capital markets are built on strong social foundations," he stated. "The recovery rates we see with Project BLOOM prove that targeted, collaborative action between the public sector, civil society, and the private sector can deliver tangible impact".

Following the initial outreach, structured follow-up visits are scheduled to take place after four weeks. These visits are crucial for monitoring the progress of the children and providing extended care and support where needed. This ongoing commitment ensures that the benefits of Project BLOOM are sustained over time.

Achunine Pascal, the Executive Director of HEI, reiterated the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the complex issue of child malnutrition. By leveraging the expertise and resources of NGX Group, the Lagos State Government, and HEI, Project BLOOM is making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable children and their families, contributing to a healthier and more prosperous future for all.
