The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has announced the completion of payment for outstanding one-month arrears related to the ₦32,000 pension increment. This move brings relief to 54,206 eligible pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) across Nigeria.
In a statement released on its X handle, PTAD's Head of Corporate Communications, Olugbenga Ajayi, confirmed that a total sum of ₦1,734,592,000 was disbursed. This final settlement addresses arrears stemming from the pension increment approved by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), which became effective from July 29, 2024.
The payment was distributed across two main departments within PTAD. The Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD) paid 25,804 pensioners a total of ₦825,728,000. Concurrently, the Tertiary Education and Health Pension Department (TEHPD) disbursed ₦908,864,000 to 28,402 pensioners.
PTAD clarified that the arrears covered a 13-month period, from August 2024 to August 2025. The Directorate had previously settled 12 months of these arrears in earlier phases before this final disbursement.
“With this final payment, all outstanding obligations of the ₦32,000 pension increment have now been fully settled,” the Directorate stated, emphasizing the closure of this payment cycle.
The agency also specified that pensioners from certain defunct agencies are not eligible for the ₦32,000 increment. This exclusion applies to retirees from entities such as Peoples Bank of Nigeria, NICON Insurance, NITEL/MTEL, PHCN, Assurance Bank, Nigeria Reinsurance, and Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), among others. These pensioners had previously received pension increases based on percentages, specifically 10.66% and 12.95%, in line with the NSIWC circular.
PTAD reiterated its dedication to the welfare of pensioners, highlighting that transparency and timely payments remain core principles of its operations. The Directorate affirmed its commitment to ensuring the dignity of DBS pensioners through accurate and prompt pension administration, aligning its efforts with the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda.
