Nigeria’s agricultural export sector experienced a significant contraction in the first quarter of 2026, with total export earnings falling by 31.20% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2025.
The total value of agricultural goods traded stood at N2 trillion, with exports accounting for N1.17 trillion. This represents a decrease from N1.7 trillion recorded in Q1 2025 and an 11.39% drop from N1.32 trillion in Q4 2025.
Geographically, Asia emerged as the primary market for Nigeria’s agricultural products, importing goods worth N529.45 billion. Europe followed closely, with imports valued at N500.34 billion.
The export basket remains concentrated, with a few traditional cash crops dominating shipments. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released these figures on Monday, June 8.
