Nigeria Considers 30-Day Visa-Free Entry for Rwandans

President Bola Tinubu has indicated that Nigeria will "seriously consider" granting Rwandan citizens 30-day visa-free entry. This potential policy shift is part of broader efforts to bolster bilateral relations between Nigeria and Rwanda and to foster Pan-African integration.

The announcement followed a meeting between President Tinubu and Rwandan President Paul Kagame at the Urugwiro Presidential Villa in Kigali. President Tinubu was in Rwanda to attend the Africa CEO Forum, a gathering focused on regional integration, trade, and investment opportunities across the continent.

The proposed visa-free arrangement is intended to mirror Rwanda's current policy, which allows Nigerian citizens to enter the country without a visa for up to 30 days. The presidency stated that this consideration is in the spirit of Pan-Africanism.

In addition to the visa policy, the two leaders agreed to revitalize the Joint Permanent Ministerial Commission, originally signed in 2021. This commission serves as a framework for deepening cooperation between Nigeria and Rwanda. It was also agreed that Nigeria would host the next session of this commission.

Discussions between the two nations also encompassed enhancing trade, improving mobility, and strengthening institutional collaboration, underscoring a commitment to closer ties and mutual development.
