Dangote Industries Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding worth over $800 million with Sinoma International Engineering Co. Ltd. to expand its cement plant in Itori, Ogun State. This expansion will double the facility's production capacity from six million to 12 million metric tonnes annually.
The agreement was signed by Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, and Lin Zhong, Chairman of Sinoma International Engineering Co. Ltd.
Doubling Capacity at Itori and Expanding Lagos Terminal
Aliko Dangote stated that the expansion project commenced even before the formal commissioning of the existing plant. The project is expected to be completed within the next 22 months.
A second contract signed under the agreement focuses on expanding the Dangote cement export terminal in Lagos. This expansion will support exports to West African countries and Central African nations, including Cameroon.
Sinoma Chairman Lin Zhong committed to providing the best technical expertise and equipment to support the 2030 strategy and vision of the Dangote Group.
Dangote also credited President Bola Tinubu for creating an enabling business environment. He noted that the decision to expand the Itori plant was encouraged by the Federal Government's renewed drive to use concrete for road construction.
Broader Four-Year African Expansion Strategy
The $800 million agreement aligns with Dangote Cement's long-term growth plans. In March 2026, the company announced plans to invest $1 billion over the next four years to expand its production capacity across Africa.
Gbenga Fapohunda, the Chief Financial Officer of Dangote Cement, disclosed this strategy during an investor conference call. The investment aims to strengthen the company's footprint across key African markets to meet rising infrastructure demand.
The additional capacity from the Itori plant and the Lagos terminal is expected to improve Dangote Cement's ability to serve both domestic and export markets. This will contribute to Nigeria's manufacturing sector and boost foreign exchange earnings.
