Nigeria's Commercial Paper Market Sees Growing Investor Interest

Nigeria’s commercial paper (CP) market is experiencing a significant shift, moving from a niche funding avenue for large corporates to a more visible and accessible investment class for a broader range of investors. This transformation is partly driven by yields on commercial paper that are increasingly outperforming Treasury bills, making them a compelling short-term fixed-income option.

The introduction of the first commercial paper instrument on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) in February 2026 marks a pivotal moment, signaling a new era for how short-term corporate debt is priced, accessed, and traded within the country's financial markets.

In a testament to the growing maturity and reliability of this market segment, Miskay Boutique International Limited recently announced the successful and timely redemption of approximately ₦278.8 million under its Series 1 Commercial Paper issuance. This redemption underscores Miskay's dedication to sound financial management and its active role in Nigeria's domestic debt capital market.

The successful repayment by Miskay follows a period of substantial growth and strategic capital deployment. The company has invested in strengthening its operating platform, enhancing inventory capacity, upgrading infrastructure, and expanding its market presence. These efforts have reportedly led to a significant increase in store footfall, exceeding 200%, and a rise in weekly digital impressions from 2 million to over 5 million.

Miskay's strategic initiatives also include physical expansion, with the recent launch of its Benin store, and high-impact brand collaborations, such as the one with Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci. These activities aim to bolster the brand's relevance and penetration within the premium fast fashion segment.
