NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, highlighted this during a recent meeting with the management of Ibom Air, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. George Uriesi, at the airline's headquarters in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. This engagement is part of the NDDC's ongoing efforts to strengthen PPPs, which are seen as crucial for initiating significant infrastructure projects and enhancing investor confidence.
Dr. Ogbuku noted that such collaborations are essential for accelerating the growth and development of the Niger Delta. He cited existing partnerships, including the joint effort with the Delta State Government and Chevron Nigeria Limited on the 70.75 km Omadino-Okerenkoko-Escravos Road and its associated bridges in the Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State.
He also recalled the successful partnership between the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited and the NDDC that led to the construction of the 25.7 km Ogbia-Nembe Road. Currently, the NDDC is collaborating with the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) on several projects: the Okrika-Borikiri road and bridges, the Kaa-Ataba Road and Bridge, and the Bonny Ring Road.
The NDDC boss stressed the importance of aligning efforts between the government, the commission, and the private sector through collaborative planning. This synergy is intended to effectively transform transit traffic into sustainable economic growth for the region.
Through these strategic partnerships, the NDDC aims to cultivate a thriving economic environment that benefits local communities and attracts further investment. Dr. Ogbuku emphasized the focus on local content, which involves engaging indigenous contractors and promoting diversified investments to significantly enhance the economic impact within the Niger Delta.
Mr. George Uriesi, the Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, described these partnerships as integral to the airline's development strategy, focusing on impactful initiatives. He highlighted the potential benefits of establishing a regional aviation hub, which could not only improve transportation but also stimulate tourism and business activities throughout the Niger Delta region.
