AEDC Announces Weekend Power Outage in Aso Villa, NASS

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced a planned service interruption for customers in several parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) this weekend. The outage is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19, 2026.

This two-day power disruption will affect critical government institutions and residential areas. These include the Presidential Villa, National Assembly, and the Supreme Court, among others.

According to AEDC, the interruption is a result of the Federal Capital Development Authority's (FCDA) ongoing road construction. This project requires the relocation of two specific electric power towers, identified as H3 and H5, from the 132/33kV Apo Transmission Station.

Areas listed to experience the outage include the State House Villa, National Security Adviser headquarters, National Judicial Council, and the Supreme Court. Also affected are the National Assembly, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and the Defence Intelligence Agency headquarters.

Further locations impacted are the State House Clinic, DSS headquarters, IBB Golf Club, ECOWAS Secretariat, and the World Bank. The General Hospital Asokoro, Guzape, and several military formations such as Lungi Barracks, Mambilla Barracks, Aguyi Ironsi Barracks, Niger Barracks, and Gowon Barracks are also on the list.

The Army War College, Army Museum, Army Intelligence Unit, and the Kano, Sokoto, and Imo governors’ lodges will also experience the outage. Residential and commercial areas include Aso Drive, Asokoro Extension, W.U. Bassey and Extension, Gado Nasko Street, and Yakubu Gowon Crescent.

Other affected streets are TY Danjuma Street, Jose Marti Street, Samora Machel Street, Kwame Nkrumah Street, Nelson Mandela Street, Desmond Tutu Street, Haile Selassie Street, Udo Udoma Street, and Senator Obiora Street, along with surrounding locations.

AEDC has apologized for the inconvenience caused by this temporary disruption. The distribution company advised customers to contact its customer service channels for further enquiries and updates regarding the planned outage.
