Fiona Ahimie has been elected as the 14th President and Chairman of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), marking a significant milestone as the first woman to hold the position in the Institute’s history.
Her election by the Council signifies a notable step forward for gender inclusion at the highest level of the Institute. Ahimie is set to succeed Oluropo Dada and will be formally inaugurated on June 25, when her tenure officially commences.
Outgoing President Oluropo Dada expressed confidence in Ahimie’s leadership, stating she possesses proven expertise, strong leadership, and a clear vision for the Institute’s future. He is confident she will build on existing progress and further strengthen the Institute’s role in the financial services sector.
Ahimie's elevation reflects the Institute’s structured succession process, as she previously served as 2nd Vice President and then 1st Vice President. Following her ascent, Dr. Akeem Oyewale has taken on the role of 1st Vice President, with the position of 2nd Vice President to be filled in due course.
During the Institute’s 31st Annual General Meeting in Lagos, Oluropo Dada highlighted key achievements from his tenure. These included the implementation of the Corporate Strategic Plan (2024–2030), the upgrade of the CIS Diploma to Certified Securities and Investment Support Specialist (CSISS), and increased media visibility alongside the restructuring of the Institute’s Secretariat.
Further accomplishments noted were progress on the CISIN Bill enactment and the successful hosting of the 2025 National Workshop in Abuja. Dada also reported improvements in funding, debt recovery efforts, and broader stakeholder engagement across the industry.
Fiona Ahimie brings over 15 years of experience in the financial services sector. She currently serves as Managing Director of First Securities Brokers Limited, a subsidiary of First Holdco Plc. Her career includes senior roles at LeadCapital, Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers, FBNQuest Capital, and African Alliance Securities Nigeria.
Her expertise encompasses trading, client development, and market strategy. Ahimie holds an MBA from Lagos Business School and a diploma from IESE Business School, Spain. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers and an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, positioning her to drive the Institute’s growth.
Oluropo Dada was elected as the 13th President and Chairman of the CIS Governing Council in 2024, succeeding Oluwole Adeosun. His administration focused on strengthening the Institute’s brand and financial base through several structural and policy reforms.
